Storage

Hi again
This is unlike me isn't it, two posts in one day?  I am beginning to wonder if I am feeling okay.....lol.
This is just a very quick post to show you my storage solution for my Spellbinder and other dies.
I like to keep my dies on a piece of magnetic sheet in a plastic cd wallet so they are easy to find and easy to store.
At the back you can see that I am also able to store my masks and all my long Sizzix dies in here too. (Plus I have a few pads that I made using my Bind-it-All machine and old scraps of paper.)

Each of the wallets has a description card included that shows the die number and manufacturers name for that die set.  Each card is cut so that they index, which makes searching through them alot easier.  I originally started out with colour codes, for example the blue tabs were for foliage & flower dies etc, silver tabs were for all the Labels die sets and the red tabs were for all the fancy shapes and tags.  Then unfortunately I ran out of some colours and so I had to use any colours I had left with any new sets I bought.

Each wallet has the dies on a magnetic sheet, the tab card and also a precut of all the dies in that set.  This allows me to play around with the shapes and design layouts before I begin the actual project diecutting and then, ultimately, I make less mistakes.  This also allows me to come up with different ways of mixing and matching the dies, creating some new and fancy shapes in the process.

For me this has been the best way to store all my dies as it is cheap, easy and space saving.  When I had less dies I used the smaller of the two boxes and then moved them over when it got too full. (Sorry about this picture it is an old one of my die box, before I had the light tent and better camera.)
The plastic CD wallets were 50 in a pack for under £3 and the boxes were £2 for the small narrow one and £2.50 for the larger one (all from Wilkinson).  In all, the storage in the bigger box was just £8.50 (I had to have two lots of CD wallets).  The smaller box is now storing other crafting items, so all in all a very inexpensive way to keep your expensive dies safe and sound!!
Well that's it folks. I hope that this is of help to someone looking for a way to store their dies.
Take care.  I'll see you tomorrow with another card, thanks for stopping by.
Hugs Linda xx

  1. Gosh Lindaa, you are so organised! I use plastic CD cases which I got from the Pound Shop and also use magnetic sheets. I love the idea of having pre-cut dies which you can then play around with.Simply brilliant! If you don't mind, I might have to borrow that idea from you. I'll probably do a few at a time till they are all done because I think it will be quite time consuming.

Thanks for all your great tips.

    Love from Christine x

  2. Hi Linda
This is a fabulous storage idea. I haven't got so many dies yet and have them all over the place in a clear box, this looks like the perfect solution. Thanks for sharing.
Enjoy the rest of the day

  3. I have a similar system . Mine are all kept in a metal storage case for CDs ( a dj case) in the cd holders that came with it . I also use these to keep all my promarkers in as well ( 6 pens per holder - all the pens numbered as per the letraset colour chart and a coloured dot on the top of each pen so I can see what the colour is!!!!!!. Lord help anybody who uses my pens and doesn't put them back in the correct place.!!!!! Lol.) like the idea of having cuts ready to play around with-nice one. Keep up the inspiration, sue

  5. Snap Linda! I use CD storage wallets for my Spellbinders too..I use the cd cases, magnetic sheets (cut up) and CD storage boxes. I divide my dies between types of die, such as florals, shape abilities, Christmas etc and it seems to work..my wonderful husband is currently working on a storage box design for my pro markers, which are currently taking up a lot of space in colour coded pots! 8. Hi Linda, such a terrific idea, my dies are on magnetic sheets A4 in plastic pockets in a ring binder but they still slip around when I'm looking through them, I shall have to give your brilliant system a go. Willies here I come. Best wishes, Lesley x

  9. A brilliant storage idea. Me thinks a trip to Wilkinson's will be in order. Great idea to have pre cuts of all the dies too. I can see that this would potentially save me quite a lot of time when prepping my cards.
    Thanks for sharing.

  10. Hi Linda

This is brilliant - I too keep my dies in little plastic folders but I am in no way shape or form as organised as you - check out all your fantastic labels - mmmm - maybe when I get a little bit of time I'll do something similar.

Thank you for dropping by my blog and leaving me some comments - I really appreciate it.

    Have a great week.

  11. Hi Linda What a great idea! I store mine at the moment in the packs they come in. I put magnetic strips in to secure them, but they still manage to fall out! They are all kept in a draw string bag so they are all together, but will try your method when I can get some cd covers. We don't have a Wilkinson nearby,so will have to look on the net for some. Thanks for the great idea of cutting them out and saving them in with the dies. Makes sense, but hadn't thought of this. Thanks again..xx
