It's Monday, so time for Quote of the Week

Hello and good morning everyone,
I do hope you all had a good weekend and are all in fine fettle today.
After a disastrous Saturday myself, I was determined to have a better Sunday and all in all it worked out pretty well.  I managed to get lots of flowers and beaded wires made for the Communion invitations I am creating for my great-niece and that really started the day off well.  I did however, have a bit of an upset later on:  my daughter's guinea pig died while in my care.   Jack had been unwell since yesterday and so Sian brought him to stay with me while she went to work.  I gave him some cuddles to warm him up and Sian even popped in at around 12.30 to see if he was ok and give him a cuddle.  He died 10mins later.  I was so upset and what made it worse was that I couldn't tell her until 4.15pm; I couldn't risk upsetting her while she was at work.  Sian was cross with me at first for not telling her, but in the end, after the worst of the upset had subsided, she knew I had done the right thing.  We do get so close to our pets don't we?!
My quotation for today was actually inspired by a lovely lady named Desiree who left me a comment following my Decorative Pins tutorial.  Desiree said that she wished she had started crafting much earlier in her life so I dedicate this one to her.   It is by Mark Twain and it reads:-
You are NEVER too old to set a new goal or to DREAM a new dream
I believe we often won't start something new, age aside, because we are afraid of the possibility of failing.   As we get older it gets harder to learn new things and our memories are less adept, this then creates fear and the fear becomes our worst enemy, not the task itself.  With this in mind here is my second and final quotation, and it is by Arthur Koestler:-
Courage is never to let your actions be influenced by your fears
I allowed my fear of the unknown to stop me from creating a blog, now after wasting months worrying, I have done it.   So whoever you may be and whatever you may want to do, take courage and give it a go.  You actually have nothing to lose except fear itself.
Enjoy the day everyone.  Hugs and regards Linda xx

    1. Thank you Fiona,
I sometimes think people think me a little soft as I get so upset when pets die, but they are part of our lives and so it is bound to affect us; I hope Lucky lives a long life with you.
I turned 50 at the end of last month and I still love to find new things to learn even if it's only a small thing like making flowers etc. My 'new learn' was this blog and I am learning new things to do with it every day (and making silly mistakes) but I am enjoying it.
Have a wonderful day with your grandson, I have my grandson today too, he is 3. Enjoy. Hugs Linda x

    Hi Linda

I was waiting for today's post for your quote and I wasn't disappointed. In fact it was two for the price of one - and both great quotes. The "Never too old" quote should be a lesson to us all. I really admire your adventure in setting up your blog - and doing such a great job with it.

My parents always had dogs when we were growing up. One of them, Honey a golden labrador, actually died on Christmas Day, which was heartbreaking. (Not quite so heartbreaking as when dad also died on Christmas Day some years later!) They vowed never to get another dog after Honey, but when dad developed heart disease mum bought him a goden cocker spaniel, Lady, who really transformed his life. We get so attached to our pets, and I don't see that as a bad thing. They become such an integral part of our lives. I really felt for you when your daughter's guinea pig died in your keeping.

Hope you are having a better week following on from your bad weekend, and I'm looking forward to seeing the Communion invites!

    Take care! Christine xx

    1. Thank you Christine, your words are so thoughtful. Yes today has been better; my grandson had alot to do with that I can tell you. He is 3, full of life but a darling of a child. I know I am biased, but he honestly is a darling. He is polite, sweet and so caring. If I am in some pain and he notices I am slow, he asks can he kiss me better or give it a rub. He is just like his dad, my eldest son was as a child. So pleased you have all enjoyed the quotations today; isn't it funny how just one sentence can hold so much meaning?!
Hope you have started your week well. Linda x

  3. Hi Linda
Great quotes today, I especially like the first one. I am a great believer in setting myself new challenges, consequently I have a very long 'bucket list'. Anne x

    1. Me too Anne. I may never get to parachute or run the marathon but I still have so many things I would like to learn; though my biggest list is actually full of things to complete! LOL! Linda x

  4. Hi Linda,
I was quite startled to see my name in your blog this morning! Thanks for both of your quotes, they are very meaningful to me as I start working full time hours again very soon for the first time in 17 years. It is both exciting to have a new challenge but daunting as I don't know how I am going to find the time to fit in everything with my large family and volunteering with Brownies. Looks like even less time to craft - sigh!! The second quote is something I have tried to instil in my children as they grew up - that they should always be honest even if they fear getting into trouble.
And yet another thing we have in common - I too have a 3 year old grandchild, although mine is a grandaughter.x

  5. Hi Linda
Have just read you quotations and the first one I found to be particularly apt.
It was retirement for me that made me feel determined to spend more time doing the things I really wanted to do. It does take quite a while though to stop feeling guilty for pursuing your interests(instead of the important things like all housework etc!!), but I think I may have almost managed to get there.
Hope your week continues to improve.

    1. Thank you Eileen. If there is one thing that a life changing accident/surgery taught me, it is that you MUST do more of the things that make you happy. Some people may say that what I am about to say is morbid, but it is not:- I believe we are obliged to live our lives right: to be happy, to pass it forward, to share and to be considerate of others as this is but a short life we live. I would like my legacy to be 'She loved, she loved life and she loved to share life'.
I am a clean freak and always have been, but now even I think that the dust will live on after me, so I dust a little less and craft a little more. Find the balance that is right for you and yours because those who care about you will know and those who don't, don't matter anyway!
Oh dear, I got on my soapbox there didn't I. You'll all be running a mile if I keep on... but I hope you get what I mean. Thank you for taking the time to comment. Best wishes Linda x

  6. Hi Linda,
I left a comment earlier and it published but then it disappeared! It was bit long but was on the lines of I was startled to see my name on your blog but was very happy to read your quotes. The first is timely for me because I am starting full time work again after 17 years and although it is exciting it is also daunting as I don't know how I'm going to cope with running a large family and volunteering with Girlguiding as well. Looks like even less time to craft, sigh!! But agree with your reply to Eileen so will find the time somehow to relieve the stress! All the best, Desiree

  7. Both very powerful quotes, Linda...and so very true. It's amazing how our fears can take hold of our lives and influence so many things we do (or don't do). I'm so glad that you've overcome your fear, as now you can show the world the talent you have been hiding from us! I did get your comment about my address...I would absolutely love to use pins that you have hand made...I can't seem to respond to your e-mail though...and there have been many times that I wanted to thank you for your thoughtful, kind words about my cards! My email is AKAEwen@netscape.net. If you could send me your email address, I'll send you my home address. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for thinking of me! Have a great night and I'm looking forward to your next creation!
