My sons birthday card

Hi all and good morning,
Thank you so much for the wonderful, kind comments that you left for me yesterday.  I was so thrilled to see you all visit after my time away.  Everytime I have had to go away for a break I come back and read your warm, thoughtful comments and I am humbled.  Bless you.

Today I am back with the first of my sons birthday cards.  I made this one from me and I will be honest I struggled so much with the design as my son has no major likes other than online gaming.  He is a real brainbox and seems to be doing well at Uni, but I couldn't really translate that onto a card, so I thought simple styling with simple colours would be the best way to go.

I apologise for the poor photos but my camera battery was about to run out when I took the pictures and I didn't have enough time to wait for it to be charged.    One thing I have just realised, I took the pictures before I put on the 21's..  I put one set of numbers above the gems (bottom, left) and the other alongside the tartan matt (top, righthand side).

As you know I love to decorated the inside of my cards to match or coordinate with the outside design and this one was no exception.  I left the Spellbinders label blank inside so I had a place to write my personal greeting.  The Happy Birthday was stamped to the inside too as I wanted 'SON' to be the main focus on the front of the card.
Both of the papers used here are free downloads, but unfortunately, I cannot find where I got them from at the moment.  I will, however,  keep looking and let you know in a future post if I find them again.  I love the soft grey stripe  paper as it is such a versatile paper and it coordianates with so much.
Well that's it for this post, I am off to design some new Christmas Decorative Pins and also some fabric flowers etc as I don't have my grandson today.  This means I can play for longer and if I design something new and pretty I will use them for the next challenge.... I'll keep you posted on that.
Whatever you are up to today I hope it is rewarding.  Take good care and have a great day.
Hugs Linda xx

  1. Morning Linda,

This is actually a really masculine card and I love it. I think it is a combination of the plaid and the soft grey colour. I'm sure he loved his unique card. Strangely, I was playing around with some plaid papers yesterday too.

Hope you have a good day. Love and hugs from Christine. xx

    1. There are times Christine when you and I think so much alike it scare me... Lol! Thank you for the words of confirmation; my cards end up like my babies and I 'parade' them hoping you will adore them as much as me or are able to point out where I may improve or enhance. I think I can safely say we crafters are all a little like that with our 'newborn' designs aren't we? Warmest hugs Linda x

  3. What a great male card Linda, I always struggle with these- in fact, when I get a commission for one I actually cringe at the thought of making it, especially as is invariably the case, foptball is mentioned! Lol - but this is perfect and I am sure your son loved it, hope he had a great birthday! Carole Z X

    1. You and I alike Carole. Why do men have to be so hard to please? Or is it a case of 'why do we women have to over think these things's?'
Here's some food for thought: how come men will spend hours preparing and maintaining a beautiful floral garden; but cannot for one minute contemplate the idea of a flower adorned card? .....strange! I think that will remain one of lifes enigma, don't you agree? Thank you so much for your lovely comment Carole, as always it means the world to me. Linda x

    1. Thank you Jenny, he seemed to be very pleased, so I'm now a happy chicky. I am going to attempt a few more men's cards in the coming week, probably Christmas ones as I have a gorgeous LOTV stamp I want to use (boy lounging in armchair after Xmas food). But first, today, I want to play with pins, beads, flowers and lots of gluey mess!
Have a wonderful day, thanks so much for your visit. Big Hugs Linda xx

  8. Hi Linda

Really great masculine card-I too love working with plaids, small checks and stripes. With three grandsons in their twenties I find them very useful. Have a look at the s.e.i 6"x6" paper pad Silver Valley companion set which has a good selection.
I'm sure your son loves the card. Looking forward to seeing your Christmas pins.

    1. I shall have a look for that paper pad as soon as I can get to my laptop, thank you Eileen. I don't think Ive seen that one.
I am going to play with a few new beads I have recently been given for my Pins and also try wooden beads too. I had a little play with some the other day and the blank wooden ones take Promarkers well and also my Martha Stewart pearlescent paint, so again I'm going to have a good time getting messy. If you knew me you'd think that odd as I hate mess and dirty hands, but when it comes to crafting, messy is fine; well up to a point.. as soon as I'm finished I'm in the bathroom cleaning it off. lol! So here's to a day of glued up fingers and messiness.
Have a great day. Thanks for stopping by. Hugs Linda x

  10. Thank you so much Christine. You and everyone else have given me so many wonderful comments today it has given me a real boost. I can't wait to get back in the
    Craftroom to create. Thank you.
I know you are poorly but I hope you have a good day and see some improvement in your health.
I will take time out a little later to answer all my emails, thank you to you all for them, but for now its crafting time before my mojo takes a holiday again. Which reminds me Christine, to your question about copying my card designs, it is absolutely fine, most cardmakers feel the same. I would see it as a massive compliment, so thank you and yes, go ahead and copy any you think worthy. It's called Casing, if you didn't know and there are blogs out there dedicated to Case Challenges. Enjoy dear friend and take care of yourself. Lots love Linda xx

  11. Hi Linda. Thought I'd pop by and check out your blog after seeing you on Jenny's blog. I'm astounded at your work and I adore this card. It is a lovely male card for a son. I did my sons card on my computer via a serif software programme as I find it very difficult making male cards but have no problems with female cards lol. Your very talented and I hope your son had a lovely birthday . Hugs sharon xxxx
