The least welcome card to make

Thank you all for your lovely comments yesterday.  I am so pleased you liked the tinting on the card.  I wanted so much to show that 'colouring' does not have to be a big issue and something to fear.  I, myself, have very little colouring skills and am still learning slowly with the help of tutorials and samples from wonderful bloggers such as Bev Rochester &  Dena Concienne.  I am going to have a play with monochrome colouring over the next week or so as it seems to be the next big thing that is taking over the cardmaking world. I must admit, it looks really good, epecially when used with a splash of colour.

Todays card is one I really didn't want to have to make, but unfortunately death is a big part of life and we cannot avoid it no matter what we do, but oh, do I wish we could.  A dear friend of mine recently lost her brother suddenly and most unexpectedly, he was only in his thirties and had a lifetime ahead of him.  I was so unsure what to do for this card, so in the end I thought it best to keep it very simple to mark my respect.

Basically I cut out a Spellbinders Labels 14 and used the 'waste' piece as a mask to sponge through.
I used a mix of Latte VersaMagic ink and Walnut stain Distress ink for this.
I stamped the flowers and the sentiment using black Archival ink, adding a slim ribbon and pleated bow with 8mm half pearls to finish off.  Well that's it, simple but suitable I think, what do you think?
My heart goes out to the family;  how do you come to terms with something so sudden and so totally unexpected.  It must be so difficult for them at this time and for some time to come.  What an awful shock to have to come to terms with.
I do hope you are all well and enjoying this glorious sunshine.
Take care.  Biggest Hugs Linda xx

  1. Linda,
This is a beautiful sympathy card. Simple and appropriate for the loss of her brother. She will appreciate it very much.... I like what you did with the sponging through the die-cut template (negative space).

I can't believe what I saw this morning on your card - I actually bought this stamp myself yesterday whilst I was hanging around waiting for John and was going to play with it when I ame back from my Zumba class. (Which reminds me, I need to make a move soon!) Love what you have done with it. Enjoy your Sunday! love from Christine x

  6. Morning Linda - this is such a lovely card for such a sad occasion. Nice and clean and simple - definitely what is needed here and I love the sentiment. How awful for your friend and her family, we can't take anything for granted even in this day of advanced medicine, make the most of every day is my motto. I shall be thinking of her.

    Hugs to you

  13. Hello Linda

I stumbled across your blog. Always a pleasure seeing another crafter getting pleasure from what they do.

You make some very sophisticated looking cards.

I sometimes make my own Christmas cards, I make lino cuts and print them on my old hand press.

Im'e a gilder and use gold leaf and imitation gold leaf rather a lot.

Have you thought of gilding onto paper?

It's really quite easy to gild onto paper, there are now modern gold sizes that are simple to use, and there are various ways to create antique and distressed finishes as well., like the crackle glaze and antique glaze.

If you have a moment, pop over to my site, there is quite a lot about gilding onto paper, in particular there is an old bookbinders recipe which you can use to make really authentic looking imitation vellums and parchment papers from ordinary papers.

    Good luck to us all.

    Richard

  14. A really simple elegant card which (to my eye) strikes the right note. Sympathy cards are so hard to do and I'm always looking for inspiration from others. I'm so sorry to hear of the loss. Hugs lin
